It's a little slow-going in the beginning, but you get attached to the characters and their personal stories. I didn't love the ending, but I'm someone who likes things thoroughly concluded with no loose ends - if I wanted to use my imagination to determine what happens to characters after the story ends, I'd write my own damn book! But I digress. It was a great story and had me feeling like I was in Mississippi in the civil rights era. I loved that she used some real events to support it (like Medgar Evers assassination) and how she wrote in their dialect, like the words on the page were coming straight from their minds.
